Yes, there have been a lot of threats to the safety of the United States for some time—much of it from within. But going to war with China? That’s a pretty new one. Not that they’ve ever been best buds. The United States has poked, prodded and pushed China almost from the minute it became a legitimate country over trivial issues. Of course, the U.S. loves to poke its nose in where it doesn’t belong. That’s why Americans are so well-loved around the world.

Now, China wants to deal with a little mosquito that’s been biting them for years—Taiwan. As long as Taiwan remains free and sovereign, China will be threatening to take that freedom away, because Taiwan is a reminder of unfinished business. The minute Hong Kong was back in the fold, so to speak, Taiwan has been directly in China’s sights. Taiwan is filled with descendants of traitors, in China’s mind. They are rich and getting richer. How China would like paybacks there, and get rid of a small nuisance. And take all the money that flows into Taiwan for themselves.

But what is that to us you say? So China swallows up Taiwan. Big deal. But the U.S. and other nations have promised to have Taiwan’s back. Taiwan is important to the United States both strategically and economically. We want what Taiwan is selling, especially those tiny microchips and processors as well as other products. We hate crawling to China. China doesn’t play fair. China doesn’t cater to us. If we really understood why China hates us so much, we just might be able to get on their good side. Only that will never happen. We are China’s antithesis. China wants the world to think that their people are happy with the things as they are in China. Some most likely are--the ones who profit under the system.

The world stage keeps getting stranger and yet more familiar all the time. Both World War I and II began under similar situations. The teams choose sides and then are obligated to fight when the big bullies pick on the small sibling. Russia has similar aims with some of its neighbors as well, Putin wants to make sure of his foothold (on the necks of his people) before attempting more aggressive behavior.

Just something to think about on this rainy day so that no one feels too comfortable drinking her morning coffee and looking out the window thinking, "Just another day in the neighborhood". It is and it isn't.
